Track Meet Day Preparations

What You Should Wear

  • Athletes should wear uniform singlet and shorts to their events. Put your sweatshirt or t-shirt over them for warm up and while you're waiting.
  • Warm up in your sweats and running shoes. Put on optional spikes when you are ready to race.

What You Should Bring

  • Extra chair or two
  • Coach phone numbers (see TeamSnap for contact information)
  • Something to read or occupy your time between events
  • Sunscreen
  • Umbrella
  • Blankets or whatever you need to be comfortable between events
  • Water and snacks
  • Money for concessions

Meet Day

  • Print out or memorize your Schedule of Events for the meet
  • Arrive one hour before your estimated start time
  • Find your tent, get your bib #, and check in with your coach
  • Warm up
  • Parents are generally not allowed onto the field.
  • Field Events. You can line up to compete as soon as officials are available. Teammates often compete together, but it's not a requirement.
  • Race events. Coaches will gather athletes prior to their event to help with warm up.
Check-in occurs before each event to ensure athletes are there, get them to a staging area, and make sure they are at the start line at the right time.
An announcer will call out when an event is ready for check in. LISTEN FOR THAT CALL. Generally, there is a first call, 2nd call, and final call for each event.

Nutrition

  • Athletes should start hydrating the week of the event, and not overdo it the day of a meet.
  • Eat your last meal a couple hours before a race.

PARENTS: Help ensure you don't waste your time at a meet!

Track numbers (via DreamsTime)
Parents !!!!!!! If your athlete is participating in meet relays, we  HIGHLY recommend that you get to know the athletes/parents on your child's relay team. This will make it easier for you to stay informed about the status of your child's relay team (specifically, whether or not there are enough team members present to compete).
If your child is assigned to a relay event and unexpectedly cannot participate in a relay, please send a TeamSnap team chat AND inform a coach. Because it is SO disappointing to hang around for a relay only to discover that teammate(s) have left without telling anyone. (Help your child to NOT be that teammate!)
Note that coaches typically assign 5 or 6 people to a team so that there are alternates and backups. This allows for late arrivals, illness, etc. Coaches will let you know if there are more than 4 athletes present for a relay team. (But if you get to know your teammates, you'll know the relay team's status before the coaches do!)
Good luck at your upcoming meet!

About marietta track club This Program

The Marietta Track Club is a Youth track program affiliated with the Marietta School System.

Who should run?

We encourage kids ages 5 to 18 years of age for the Spring Park and Recreation program season and 5 to 18 years old for our competitive Summer Season with USATF and AAU Track and Field.

Mission Statement

Our objective is to inspire and cultivate a love of Track and Field in our athletes. To accomplish this we will:
  • Provide a safe training environment.
  • Develop well-rounded athletes by familiarizing them with the fundamentals of running and field events.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere that is both fun and conducive to the development of good character, a sound body, and a sound mind.
  • Teach exercises, drills, team rules, and event rules to ensure our athletes posses the skills that help them practice and compete safely.
  • Recognize that each child is an individual who will develop and learn to perform at his or her own pace.
